If you’re in the mood for a summer scandal, a new series filmed in North Carolina is headed to Netflix. “The Hunting Wives,” based on May Cobb’s bestselling novel, follows a woman drawn into a dangerous clique of East Texas socialites. The eight-episode drama drops on Monday, July 21, and parts of it were filmed in the Charlotte area. Here’s what to know before binge-watching. What is ‘The Hunting Wives’ about? The story centers on Sophie O’Neill, who moves from the East Coast to a small Texas town. What starts as boredom in suburbia turns into an obsession when she meets the alluring and reckless Margo Banks, who leads an exclusive group known as the Hunting Wives and leads Sophie down a path of obsession, secrets, and murder. Bought initially by the Starz network, the thriller stars Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect) as Sophie, opposite Malin Åkerman (Billions) as Margo. Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Katie Lowes (Scandal), Jaime Ray Newman, Evan Jonigkeit and Dermot Mulroney round out the cast. Filming began in spring 2024 and wrapped late last year. Netflix picked up the series after Lionsgate’s separation from Starz in May, according to Variety. “It’s definitely unlike anything I’ve done before, and it’s stretching me in a way that is really cool because my character has the biggest arc in terms of who we think she is and who she turns out to be,” Snow told US Weekly There’s a lot of scenes in this show. Downtown Mooresville stood in for the fictional “Maple Brook, Texas,” with production crews transforming storefronts with Texas flags, banners, and prop signage for several weeks last spring on Main Street. “[Mooresville] has such a cool small-town vibe, and they’ve really done a great job revitalizing the downtown area,” local business owner Lauren Frank told Queen City News. “So, it’s cool to see that someone scouted it for a TV show and really appreciated that.” When can I watch it on Netflix?
